About Us

Biu Inspired Foundation (pronounced /bI’yu/, /bee’yu/), is a non-profit organization registered under the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. BIF was incorporated in 2017, and focuses on providing food and clothing for internally displaced persons whose communities receive little or no aid, as well as educational opportunities for vulnerable and internally displaced children.

We recognize that the most vulnerable victims of insurgency are typically women and young children. Thus, while BIF aims to meet the basic needs of food and clothing donated by individual and corporate benefactors to affected areas periodically, it has also catered to the educational needs of over 100 children since inception. We are responsible for tuition, school uniforms and other items that aid school-age children in their quest for formal education.

A Note from our Founder

In 2014, I had the rare opportunity of interviewing a candidate with a peculiar story for a job opportunity. This was at a recruitment and selection exercise in Calabar, Nigeria, on behalf of a Client. When asked why we should consider his candidacy over others, he mentioned his resolve; the fact that he had scaled through the first stage, which was the written assessments; and that he embarked on a two-day journey from the North to Calabar with no ties and no guarantee. All he had was hope, backed by a desperate need to flee the war in Biu, Borno State. I call it war because nothing else explains the level of carnage and ruins caused by the Boko Haram crisis, which intensified in Nigeria in 2011.
He did get the job on merit and shortly after, relocated his young family to safety. That conversation however left me restless for weeks. I shared my thoughts with my husband and close-knit friends and together, we decided to do something new. Seeing as the crisis had left so many residents of Borno state homeless, resulting in one of the largest Internally Displaced Persons’ (IDP) camps in Nigeria, we were certain that raising funds for a children’s Christmas party at the camp could spread some cheer to that community.
Since the first Christmas Party organised for these IDPs in 2014, our vision has expanded beyond one meal at Yuletide, to donation of relief materials and now, education.

What started as a one-time desire to spread some cheer to the IDPs in Biu, Borno State, gave birth to what we know today as Biu Inspired Foundation.
The fight against terrorism and insurgency is still ongoing, metamorphosing from Boko Haram terrorists to Herdsmen, who displace farming communities, even villages from their lands. Some people believe the fight is somewhat better contained, restoring relative peace and normalcy to some of these areas. However, our interaction with victims from these crises cause us to understand the need to keep intervening. Hunger, homelessness, extreme poverty, despair.. these must be tackled like a pandemic.
The fact that you are reading this is testament to one truth: we have tons of kind-hearted people in our community. People who smile at every opportunity to be a ray of hope to the vulnerable amongst us.
Your support metamorphosed Biu Inspired Foundation. Your support keeps us alive.
You are our inspiration. Thank you.

Core Values

1Accountability

Personal responsibility, ownership of our tasks and reliability are our watchwords. It is extremely important to us that we honour commitments to benefactors, beneficiaries and the public at large. We also understand that humans are infallible, so will not hesitate to own up to a fault, where necessary.

2Passion

Nothing is as important as passion. No matter what you want to do with your life, be passionate.” Jon Bon Jovi

3Service

We are called to serve. We are feet washers. We put others’ needs above ours and will never hesitate to take a decision that categorizes us as ‘small’. So long as an extra life is touched, so long as depriving ourselves of a luxury rekindles hope in a child’s eyes, as long as our stooping indeed conquers, we will be just fine.

4Integrity

At BIF, we believe integrity is 0 or 100. We take its dictionary definition of being honest, and having strong moral principles quite literally. Charity, they say begins at home, so we are totally honest with ourselves by consistently doing what is right, moral, and fair in every situation. Only then can we truly be forthright with others. Our actions are weighed deeply before executed and we are not afraid of the consequences that arise from taking decisions. We will not exaggerate our successes regardless of what is at stake and will never tolerate politics, hidden agendas or passive-aggressive behaviour.

5Love

“If we were to be so generous as to give away everything to feed the poor without the pure motive of love, we gain nothing of value. Love is large and incredibly patient. Love is gentle and consistently kind to all. Love does not brag about one’s achievements nor inflate its own importance. Love is a safe place of shelter, for it never stops believing the best for others. Love never stops loving.” 1 Cor. 13. The Bible

“If there is another word for thank you, I would have mentioned it. I love you all so much and look forward to meeting you soon. May the heavens meet you at the point of your needs. You have brought smile and relief to my family and mother in particular. Huge thanks go out to the Foundation.”
